Miller Announces He Will Not Seek Re-Election
3/10/2016
WASHINGTON — U.S. Rep. Jeff Miller (R-FL-1) announced today that he will not seek a ninth term in the U.S. House of Representatives.
“Vicki and I have decided it’s time for us to explore a new chapter in our lives,” Miller said.
Miller was first elected in an October 2001 special election and has served Florida’s First District ever since. He has chaired the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs since 2011, leading the committee’s oversight of the Department of Veterans Affairs through the wait-time scandal and the resulting bipartisan reforms. Under House Republican conference rules, committee chairmen are term-limited, and Miller would not have been able to hold the gavel for at least another four years.
Miller said he will serve out the remainder of his term, which ends in January 2017.
