VA Accountability and Whistleblower Protection Act Signed Into Law
6/23/2017
WASHINGTON — President Trump today signed the VA Accountability and Whistleblower Protection Act of 2017, legislation that grew out of the accountability bills championed by former Veterans’ Affairs Committee Chairman Jeff Miller.
The House had passed its version, the VA Accountability First Act (H.R. 1259), on March 16, 2017 — a successor to Miller’s H.R. 4031 and H.R. 5620, which the House passed in 2014 and 2016. The final law expedites the removal and discipline of VA senior executives and strengthens whistleblower protections.
As chairman from 2011 to 2017, Miller made VA accountability the centerpiece of the committee’s work, holding more than 40 hearings on the department’s management failures.
