Miller Among Leading Contenders for VA Secretary
5/2/2018
WASHINGTON — Former U.S. Rep. Jeff Miller has emerged as a leading contender to serve as Secretary of Veterans Affairs, multiple news organizations reported. Miller was scheduled to meet with White House vetters this week after the withdrawal of Rear Adm. Ronny Jackson’s nomination.
Miller chaired the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee from 2011 to 2017 and was under consideration for the post during the presidential transition in 2016 as well. AMVETS described him as “a champion for veterans, particularly in the areas of healthcare access and accountability.”
President Trump ultimately nominated Robert Wilkie to lead the department.
